Birthday Boy

Sometimes you celebrate a child's birthday in anticipation of the year to come. Sometimes you celebrate that you survived the previous year. All I have to say is that we survived age three.

Lightning McQueen cake - not my favorite cake, but it's recognizable and that's all that really mattered.

The birthday boy

Daniel and I reading his birthday cards

Hours of fun and it wasn't even a birthday gift. Somehow Uncle Phil's Christmas gifts just made their way to our home...And Uncle Phil buys THE coolest toys. This set came with tons of connecting pieces and about 12 tires. You should see all crazy vehicles that have been created!

Aunt Kalf was still here and having a blast with Carrie. It was her last night and my parents had just arrived back in town, so everyone gathered here for a few hours.

And Uncle Stephen managed to make Daniel's fourth birthday forever memorable. While running from the squirt gun he'd just given Daniel, he threw his arms up in the air and his wedding band went flying. After about 40 minutes of everybody searching, Kalf saved the day by uncovering it with a rake. Whew!

I think Daniel had a special day. And so far...Age four rocks! :)

Julie,

I love the birthday cake! It's amazing all the cakes that you make. They all look professionally done. I would love to learn to make cakes like that. I'm so glad you made it through the "3's"!!!

Tell Stephen, I know how he feels when he loses his band in the yard. That happened to me a couple of weeks ago when I took my band(s) off and put them in my pocket so i could stain/varnish moms bench... My heart sunk when I checked my pocket to put them back on and only one was there... Thankfully Steph found it on the edge of the driveway and grass down by the light-pole while we were all frantically looking. It must of fell out when I pulled my phone out of my pocket to call some one. It was a horrifying feeling to think I might have lost my wedding band forever — you can always buy a new one, but it doesn't hold the same sentimental feeling/memory.

I hear you will be in Ohio in July? What week will you be up? I want to see all of you!

Lots of Love,
Mandie

Story 1...Daniel's birthday wasn't the only day last week. I did it again on Friday. When I got home from work on Friday, I had drained a plant that Kristin had. I had my hands all in the dirt and thought it may be in a big pot of dirt. I looked everywhere and couldn't find it. I even went to work at 11PM to see if I had just left it at work. Luckily, I found it the next day on the corner of the deck. Apparently, I took it off before I started playing in the dirt so I wouldn't lose.

Story 2....Kristin lost her's last week too. On Friday, she was babysitting a couple's kids and took the them to the pool. When she got up to go, she realized she didn't have her engagement ring on. She freaked out and emptied her bags...nowhere to be found. The kids were get frustrated with her that she kept looking. Finally, she went over to the lifeguards and asked them. Apparently, she had left it in the bathroom. One of the country club ladies picked it up and put it in a safe place. She got it back on Monday.

Come to find out, when they found the ring, they debated if it was real or not. Kristin has really small fingers and they thought it might be a kids ring. The diamond looked too shiny to be true. Thank goodness they didn't throw it away.

Yikes Stephen, Maybe this is the reason some people tattoo their wedding band on to their finger. I don't like tattoo's but maybe they are on to something :P

Hopefully you guys got "losing your wedding bands" all out of your system!!! It's a good thing you both were able to find them. I keep mine on all the time now. I use to take it off for showers, dishes, yard work, etc. but would rather have a slightly worn/weathered ring than no ring at all!

Will you and Kristin be coming up this summer to visit? Hope you both are doing well!

Lots of Love,
Mandie
