Not Exactly What I Had In Mind.....

It's no secret that Daniel, age 3, has some fears.

"bunder" and lightning - normal for his age
bees - with good reason
tigers - just because
orcas - in his dreams ... (these are very amusing)

and lately....flies. Of which we currently have two hanging out in our home.

It's not so much his fear that poses a problem - we all have a few. It's his reaction to the fear that needs a little attention. His over the top screaming panic.

Over a FLY.

So tonight after dinner, when the fly came through and the screaming started, I decided enough was enough. I asked Daniel to say the verse about fear that he learned last fall.

For God has not given me a spirit of fear but of power, of love and of a sound mind. II Timothy 1:7

I gently explained to him that he didn't need to be afraid of the fly. He could over-power it. He could love it. Or he could have a 'sound mind' and decide it was not a big deal to have a fly in here. Where I went wrong was in expecting that he would choose the first or the last option.

Instead, he decided to love it. And give it a name. (rolling my eyes)

And now we are calling for Flyee and chasing Flyee all over the house because we just love Flyee. Which is better than screaming in fear....but not exactly what I had in mind.
