The Bucket Review

Our new washpod arrived a few days ago. Carrie got two baths the first day. Once it arrived I couldn't wait to try it out, so she got in right after her next feeding. Then again when Michael got home. I managed to hold off yesterday, but tonight we put her in after dinner and took pictures.

I think she likes it. She relaxes as soon as she her bottom hits the seat and she leans back like you might in a hot tub. Obviously, she's still little so we keep a hand on her, but she doesn't fall over or slide around much at all.

I'm glad I bought the bucket. I think baby bathtubs are a matter of preference. Most of the time it comes down to how much space you have and what's most comfortable for the adult. (Leaning over the tub is most definitely not comfortable!) You use what works best for you.

So here's why I like my bucket:
1. It takes up significantly less space than a regular infant tub. Our bathrooms are small and there isn't room for a lot of extra stuff.

2. It's lightweight and easy to carry. Because of displacement, you don't use a whole lot of water. I fill it with the faucet extension at the sink and then move it down to the kiddie table for easier access.

3. It keeps her warmer. In the sink, or on a bath sling the water only touches the baby's back. This way, she's in water up to her arm pits and it's not so cold.

4. The cushioned seat that fits into the bottom of the bucket is contoured to encourage the baby to sit cross legged. It raises the legs up some, which also helps her to lean back.

5. Much less mess since it doesn't leak.

I haven't found that washing her bottom is any more difficult than it was on a sling or in the sink. In those locations, the back is hard to get to. With the bucket, I drape her over my arm and wash her right before I take her out. Washing a baby can be tricky no matter where you do it, so the tub you use just has to be something you're comfortable with.

For us, I'd say it's a hit!

I agree Carrie looks super cute in her bucket. I'm glad you are happy with it. I think the bucket might travel well too ;) since it is lightweight and easy to carry.
