Bus Drama

Brenna's bus driver, Mr. T, has been out the past few days. She's had a series of substitutes and not been particularly happy about that at all. Are all Kindergartners so loyal to their bus drivers?

On Monday afternoon, she got off the bus with the saddest face and said, "Mr. T wasn't here this afternoon either." Then big tear drops formed in her eyes and spilled down her cheeks. I pulled her close and suggested that maybe he was sick; that he'd be back soon.

Wondering what had caused such a strong reaction to his absence, I asked, "Brenna, did something happen on the bus?"

She looked up at me with her big brown eyes and said, "Mr. T lets us sit three to a seat, but that bus driver said two to a seat." Her little eyebrows pulled together and she finished the story with all the indignation she could muster.

"And I had to sit with a boy!"

Poor Brenna! Now the tears about boys have begun. Whether it's the fact that she had to sit with one on the bus home from kindergarten or that one has broken her heart when she's old enough to drive...the tears caused by boys! You have my most heart-felt empathy, Julie!
