Open Letter to Daniel

Daniel!

What is it with the raw potatoes, banana skins, and the trash can??? I don't get it. You took a bite of another raw potato today. Then after carrying it around, you decided to start picking up all the potatoes and taking them to the trash can. Which really didn't surprise me because last week I caught you carrying around a banana peel that you'd rescued from the trash. You'd already eaten half of one peel and were preparing for your next bite, when I became suspicious of your silence. Seriously, kid. What is your fascination with the trash can??? If I turn my back for one second...no, if I stand there and stare directly at you, firmly saying 'NO - Don't touch', you will walk purposely toward the trash can and pull out whatever is on top. It matters not to you what has been thrown in there. You just dig till you find something to carry around or put in your mouth. Empty milk jugs and empty cereal boxes are your favorite, but you'll stop at nothing to get your hands in that kitchen trash can.

It's gross!

Now you know why I block all of your exit routes from the living room. Even amidst your loud and furious protests. It is for your own good. I must spare you from your own yucky curiosities.

Love,
Mommy

P.S. Thank you for eating pasta tonight. Are you finally over your little boycott?

Thanks for the giggle this morning. I was lucky, my son was never one to get into the trash, cabinets or anything like that.

And, I understand that there is some nutrition to be had from banana peels.....

Dear Momma,
Remember when we were in Tennessee this summer? Remember how you would say "Here Suz" and hand me over to Aunt Suzy? Well, I enjoyed spending time with her, especially when she went digging to see what people were throwing away. Aunt Suzy finds the neatest things in the trash. She can take trash and make it a treasure, Momma. SOOOOOOOOOOO Momma, why can't I take trash and make it a delicious meal? I AM eating fruits and veggies you know, Momma.
Momma, I really like the trash can. Maybe someday, I will grow up to be a trash collector and get to drive that big truck around town visiting all my friends. Maybe someday I will find you the perfect potato and we can share it together. I know you would like the potato, Momma, if you would just try it. Maybe someday I will find treasures in the trash just like Aunt Suzy. Then Brenna and I can be quiet for a whole afternoon making special things, from our treasures, just for you, Momma.
Momma, please don't be too hard on me. I am just a curious, adventurous, sweet little boy you know. I love you, Momma!
XOXOXOXOX
Daniel

PS Know why I was not eating pasta? Because I already had my meal... straight from the trash can! YUMMY, Momma!

Oh, Daniel and Piper must be soul mates - I can't keep her out of the trash either. The worst mess so far happened the other day when she found the coffee filter full of coffee grounds...
The mess! She had the grounds in 3 different rooms and up her nose.
This just has to be a phase, doesn't it???
