A Grandfather's Pain

This post might bring tears to your eyes, as it did mine. Still, I felt some compulsion to share it with you. It is titled What I Said at My Granddaughter's Funeral by John Piper.

I felt his sorrow as I read it, but it also pulled on a sadness that rests deep within my heart. In that very special place I keep the memories of my miscarriage and the memories of my friend Molly's son Jackson, who died of SIDS at 5 months.

The lyrics below were ones I clung to, and still do, when I struggle through times like those. Sometimes I must choose to say "blessed by Your name."

Blessed Be Your Name
(by Matt Redman)

Blessed be your name
In the land that is plentiful
Where the streams of abundance flow
Blessed be your name

Blessed be your name
When I'm found in the desert place
Though I walk through the wilderness
Blessed be your name

Every blessing you pour out,
I turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
Still I will say...
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be your glorious name

Blessed be your name
When the sun's shining down on me
When the world's all as it should be
Blessed be your name

Blessed be your name
On the road marked with suffering
Though there's pain in the offering
Blessed be your name

Every blessing you pour out,
I turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
Still I will say...
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be your glorious name

You give and take away
You give and take away
My heart will choose to say
Lord, Blessed be your name
