The Prompt

Last night we watched the movie Coach Carter. It was the third or fourth inspirational education movie we've seen, and the second since we joined Netflix in July. I am appalled at the school administrations that have been portrayed in these movies. Most of them show an administration that is satisfied with the status quo of their schools even if it is a failing school. Their expectations are low. They've lost sight of the possibilites and of the potential of their students. It's sad to see principals who have stopped challenging their teachers and therefore dropped the expectation of success from the students. Even more discouraging is when a teacher tries to raise the bar and a principal stands in the way.
And by the way, why is it that these movies are all about male teachers? Do the female teachers not take these drastic stands? Whether they do or not, we certainly need more Coach Carters and Mr. Escalantes in our schools.

So that was what prompted the whole blogging idea Anyway, that's all I have time for right now. The baby is crying and needs to be fed. Back to reality I guess.
