Strangely Fascinating

Some time ago I followed a link to a website devoted entirely to awkward family pictures. The link was actually to a Thanksgiving dinner letter set of demands. But after I read that and laughed, I started to scroll through the other posts on the site. While the majority of them are not hysterically funny, they are definitely awkward!! I guess that's what makes them so fascinating. The site is called Awkward Family Photos. (It has a lot of ads, so just be aware of that.)

I suppose every family has a few photos that fit this category. When my grandparents (mom's parents) were celebrating their 50th anniversary, I collected pictures from all fifty years and compiled them into a power point presentation. And since I did the work - I have all the pictures at my disposal...

This seemed like a good place to start. These fine folks are my great-grandparents. The picture was taken at the my grandparent's wedding. Doesn't it look like such a festive occasion? Such a happy event.

This one speaks for itself. I truly have no words. I can't even remember who these people are except that they are related to my grandparents somehow.

Um....Nana looks like a rag doll here. Why is Pap holding her up like that? Awkward!!

No set of awkward family photos could ever be complete in my family without one like this.
True confessions: We cousins used to play wedding with Nana's nightgowns, jewelry, and make up. There were only two boys so they had to take turns being the groom. Um...yes. Cousins. No, it was Ohio, not West Virginia....although the state line wasn't that far away....

Awkward!!!

The pics are funny. I love them. Apparently smiling for photos is something that happened a generation or two later. If you look at the cousins wedding picture and compare a picture of Nikki as the flower girl in Mandie's wedding she looks like she could double as me in that picture.

I can't get over how much Mildred looks like Walter's mother.

Thanks for bringing me laughter tonight. :)

Wendy,
I totally agree with your comment about Nikki. She could have been your stunt double! LOL :)
