Bring on the SMOOTHIES!
Tonight we started with one we first discovered a few years ago in a tiny 2 inch book called Little Books For Cooks: Smoothies. Of course, by now it only slightly resembles the original version. In the book, they call it 'Strictly Watermelon', but strictly anything doesn't last long in my kitchen.
Some may say I get that from my Grandma.
They might be right.
Here's the recipe for the Strawberry-Watermelon Smoothies I made tonight:
4 cups of watermelon
4-6 ice cubes
one lime
1 1/2 Tbsp. sugar
3-4 large strawberries, chopped
Place 2 cups of watermelon in a smoothie maker or blender. Add 4-6 ice cubes. Blend until ice is chopped. Add 2 more cups of watermelon, the juice of one lime, 1 1/2 Tbsp. of sugar, and 3-4 large strawberries. Blend until well mixed. Pour into glasses and enjoy.
Notes:
1. This is a great way to use extra watermelon - especially if you bought a giant, whole watermelon for your family of four. (Who, us?)
2. This type of smoothie is not thick.
3. The next time I make this one, I might try adding a little vanilla ice cream to the mix.
4. Smoothies go great with popcorn!

Since you already are adding sugar, you might want to try yogurt. yummy!
mmmm! sounds delish, and i think the ice cream would make a great addition.
I second yogurt... and no watermelon but I guess that would totally defeat a watermelon smoothie. :D I'm not a fan although Anna and Reed are. They both love it!
Oh and we are going to do your summer reading competition...$20 is on the line! Yeah, its a LOT of money but she really struggles with reading (as in wanting to read independantly but loves books!) on her own so I had to make it worth her while.
