Friday is grocery day at this house. It generally takes the whole morning. We get up, get dressed, eat breakfast and then get everybody out to the car. That part alone, takes longer than the actual shopping! Today it was actually cold outside. We've progressed past chilly and definitely needed jackets. And it was windy. Cold wind.
I wasn't supposed to spend very much today. Last week I stocked up on a lot of things and spent about $120. Since we aim to average about $80 a week, this should've been a quick trip. Essentials only. My list was short and my intentions were good.
But I cringe as I tell you that the total was $113. Oops. No, not really oops. It wasn't an accident. I fell for the sales. And a bunch of fruit.
First of all, my kids like apples. And Daniel has learned to say "apl", although he still thinks they are really balls that you are supposed to throw as hard as you can. But we got apples today, which made him smile and say "apl". And we got bananas. And grapefruit. And a mango, because ... well... honestly? because I've never bought a mango before, and I thought we should find out if we like them.
Then we worked our way back to the meat section. VERY LARGE SIGN: Buy 5 meat packages for $20. My first instinct was, "We bought meat last week. We don't need any." But then I rounded the corner and they were serious!! I got $33.24 worth of meat for $20. I got a whole chicken, thick pork chops, beef cubes, round steak, and country style pork ribs. (And yes, Kalf, I put it all in my new freezer!!) That was a good deal!
Then, of course, the Halloween candy was 50% off. I shouldn't have even gone up that aisle. But that's where the bread was, so I had to. I'm tellin' ya, I have no will power right now. Even though we have a whole basket full of candy here ... including what we didn't hand out ... I confess that I bought more. But it was 50% off! I'm telling myself that Michael can use it for prizes at school. I did, at least, put it in the freezer too. That way it's out of sight.
And then it seemed that every aisle had something I'd forgotten to write on the list. Ranch dressing. Toilet cleaner. Salsa. Chicken Nuggets (What mom can live without those?) Broccoli. Eggs. and on and on it went.
Good thing they let me work at Rockett's Landing sometimes. I have a Ukrops habit to support!
Next week I will do better. I must. Maybe I'll just ask Michael to stop for milk and bread. : )

You will have that freezer full in no time!
Sounds like me at the grocery store! They have the 5 for $20 deals here too, but your deal sounds better than what I usually get.
